November 5th Email

Here is the official blog for Elder Parker Owen Badger! And this is the first post! :) It took a while for things to be going smooth, and he will let me know when I can share emails and stories from letters. We're so glad that he has adjusted well and is loving the mission field.

I (his sister) got this email on November 5th, and finally got the blog up today. We'll post whenever he allows us! :)

Hi Carlee!

Sorry, last p-day got thrown in the toilet...again. I didn't write any letters, hopefully we'll have time today. We have to start regular missionary work again on p-days at 6pm. Only about 2 hours left and we haven't done our laundry yet because our teaching/dinner/laundry appointment got canceled. The wife of the investigator got sick and had to cancel. She is a member, her husband is not. This investigator we're teaching is a special one to Elder Hill and I...

My first Sunday out in the mission field, Elder Hill and I spoke in church. About 60 people regularly come every week so it wasn't that bad. Elder Hill and I spoke what we were prompted to speak. Through us, the Spirit taught our branch what they needed. After sacrament meeting was over, a man came up to Elder Hill and said, "My wife and I want you over for supper, and we want you to teach us something." I didn't think anything of it until Elder Hill told me about this man. His wife is a member, he is not, and they both have been coming to church for 15 years. He has a thing or two that's holding him back from joining the church, but he's a great person. The reason this is significant is because the last time he had missionaries over was 15 years ago. He didn't want to hear the discussions/lessons for 15 years. Something that Elder Hill or I said touched his heart. What it was, we don't know. But we taught him part of the restoration with his wife there, and we're going back for a third time sometime in the next week while his wife is out of town. What makes this more exciting for my companion and I, is that none of these visits were set up by us. This investigator calls us. He asks us to come over. He schedules a time for us to come over. This is one of many miracles that happen every day here in Rockland, Maine. This is just a small glimpse of the work that the Lord has in store for us.

Every person in the branch we talk to has told us that in the history of Rockland, there hasn't been missionaries like us. They have all told us there is something very different about us, and the Spirit we bring. We don't know what it is, but we know where it comes from. We are being watched over every day, every minute, every second. Without the Lord, we are nothing. Alma 26:12

I love you, I miss you, and I'll write again next week! Share this with the family, and Facebook or whatever if you want.

Love, Elder Parker Owen Badger
